ALLENDALE, MICH. – The 16
th ranked Grand Valley State volleyball team returned home and picked up their fifth straight victory, defeating Roosevelt in straight sets. The sweep moves GVSU to 13-1 overall, and 5-1 in conference play.
Grand Valley took the match by the set scores 25-8, 25-11, and 25-16. GVSU dominated the opening set, going on a 11-0 run to start the game. They increased that lead up to 15-1 following a kill from
Kennedy Arp. From there they cruised to the opening set win. In the second set, Roosevelt was within striking distance at 15-7, but GVSU turned it on from there, ending the set on a 10-4 run to go up 2-0. Grand Valley opened the third set on a 7-0 run, but that got cut to 10-7 shortly after. However, Roosevelt was never able to get closer than three points, as GVSU pulled away in the end to secure the sweep.
Brianna Stawski had a big day, recording nine kills on a .750 hitting percentage, adding 4.5 blocks.
Kate Goudreau tallied six kills on a .857 hitting percentage, while
Kennedy Arp had five kills.
Meghan O'Sullivan totaled 17 assists, five kills, and three service aces.
Julia Blaney had 14 digs and
Caroline Baker dished out 12 assists. Defensively, the Lakers held Roosevelt to a -.143 hitting percentage and had 10 total blocks.
The Lakers head out on the road next weekend, traveling to Parkside on Friday and Purdue Northwest on Saturday.
