ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State track and field team welcomed back a handful of Laker Alumni at the annual Mike Lints Alumni Open on Saturday, January 20
th. The Lakers completed the annual meet recording 11 Division II NCAA provisional marks on the men's side and 10 for the women's crew.
Final Results
On The Track
Both the men's and women's track squads continue to be dominate on the track this season, as they consistently find themselves finishing with multiple athletes in the Top 5.
In the women's 400m, Grand Valley State took over the Top 5 finishing with four athletes on top.
Ashtyn Gluck led the Lakers as she took home first place with a time of 57.98, followed by
Kate Zang in second with a time of 58.04,
Catherine Guckenberger in third recording a time of 58.07 and
Isabel Abdouch in fifth with a time of 58.44.
Taryn Chapko led the women in the mile, as Grand Valley State finished with five Lakers in the Top 10. Chapko claimed first-place, recording a new personal-best time of 4:49.59, in addition to surpassing the Division II provisional mark. Freshman,
Allie Arnsman finished in second-place with a new personal-best time of 4:56.62, also surpassing the provisional mark.
Hannah Bodine placed fourth with a time of 5:06.52,
Sydney Nesbitt in seventh in a time of 5:09.73 and
Cameron Cleveland in eighth with a time of 5:10.84.
In the women's 800m,
Klaudia O'Malley and
Maria Mitchell finished back-to-back, placing second and third. O'Malley recording a time of 2:12.26 and Mitchell a time of 2:12.62, both hitting the Divison II provisional mark.
Brooke Berridge rounded out the Top 5 for the Lakers, as she finished in fourth place with a new-personal best time of 2:16.77.
On the men's side,
Ethan Smith and
Joshua Hurt finished one after another, claiming first and second place in the men's 60m hurdles. Smith recording a new personal-best time of 8.14 and Hurt with a new personal-best time of 8.17.
In the men's 800m, the Lakers finished 1 – 3 led by
Caleb Futter. Futter recorded a new-personal best time of 1:50.75, in addition to surpassing the Division II provisional mark.
Scott Spaanstra finished in second-place with a time of 1:52.59, followed by
Patrick Lyell in third in a time of 1:52.81.
Zach Pray and
Myles Rhodes finished in first and second place in the men's 400m, Pray recording a time of 48.64 and Rhodes with a time of 49.29.
The Throwers Circle
Alaina Omonode and Shelby Uvlen continue to take over the weight throw invite, placing back-to-back in the Top 2 for the second weekend in a row. Omonode took home the crown, throwing a distance of 18.62m, while Ulven threw a distance of 17.86m, both hitting the Division II provisional mark.
The women's shot put crew cleaned the Top 5, claiming 1 – 4 in the shot put invite this weekend.
Erika Beistle brought home first-place for the Lakers throwing a distance of 16.06m, followed by
Mackenzie Bohrer in second with a new personal-best distance of 15.12m,
Paige Westra in third with a distance of 14.66m and
Reette Thorns in fourth throwing a distance of 14.33m. All four lady Lakers surpassed the Division II provisional mark.
For the men,
Shane Byrne and James MacKey Jr. finished in second and third for Grand Valley State in the men's weight throw invite. Byrne throwing a new-personal best distance of 19.62m and MacKey Jr. a distance of 18.91m.
Jumps Crew Takeover
In the men's high jump,
Eli Kosiba and
Jaivon Harrison placed one after another, claiming first and second place. Kosiba took home first place after clearing 2.20m, he then had sights on setting a new Grand Valley State school record (2.23m) and attempted to jump 2.26m but fell just short, while Harrison cleared a height of 2.08m.
Caleb Taylor and
Luke Jelderks took over the men's long jump, earning first and second place for the Lakers. Taylor in first with a distance of 7.05m and Jelderks in second with a long jump distance of 6.90m.
For the women,
Ashley Atkins and
Sydney Cangilla finished back-to-back in the high jump. Atkins clearing a new personal-best height of 1.58m and Cangilla a height of 1.55m. In the women's long jump,
Alaina Diaz finished second jumping a distance of 5.51m and
Gloria Stepanovich in fourth with a new personal-best of 5.05m.
Pole Vault – The High Bar
The Laker men hit three provisional marks in the pole vault this weekend, as they claimed first through third.
Colton Emeott and
Wyatt Alwine tied for first place clearing a height of 4.81m, while
James Nutt finished in third (judge's decision) with a height of 4.81m.
The Grand Valley State Lakers are back at the Kelly Family Sports Center next weekend (Friday, January 26
th) for the last time this month, as they host the GVSU Bill Clinger Classic.
