GVSU - SVSU Highlights
ALLENDALE, MICH. – It was the first edition of the Battle of the Valleys on 616 Night in Allendale, and the GVSU women's basketball was able to take down their rival 76-38 to pick up their sixth straight victory and move to 13-1 overall.
After SVSU took a quick 5-0 lead, the Lakers came back with seven straight points, with
Ellie Droste scoring five of the seven. With the score tied at nine, Droste hit another triple to ignite a 13-2 run to end the quarter and put the Lakers up 22-11.
With the Lakers up by 13 midway through the second quarter,
Rylie Bisballe hit a three-pointer to start a 7-0 run to put the Lakers up 36-16. The Cardinals were able to cut into the lead heading into the break, but still trailed 38-22.
A 6-0 run to open the second half gave the Lakers a 22-point advantage, but SVSU turned around and went on a 10-1 run to make it 45-32. Grand Valley answered back with a 7-0 run to bring the lead back up to 20 at 52-32 with one quarter to go.
The fourth quarter was all Lakers, as they outscored the Cardinals 24-6 in the final 10 minutes of play.
Ava Scanlon had consecutive layups and Bisballe buried another three as part of the offensive output to help the Lakers to a sixth consecutive win.
Rylie Bisballe scored a season-high 17 points, hitting three triples, pulling down six rebounds as well.
Ellie Droste added 14 points, with
Ava Scanlon scoring 10 and getting three steals.
Avery Zeinstra had nine points, while
Megan Crow had eight.
