Volleyball Stays Perfect With Sweep Of Colorado Christian

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball opened their home schedule at the Hampton Inn and Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic with a 3-0 sweep of Colorado Christian to win their third straight game to begin the season.
 
The Lakers took the three sets by the scores of 25-9, 25-26, and 25-20. In set one, the Lakers opened with a hot start, going up 10-3 forcing a Cougar timeout. The Lakers rolled on with 15-6 end to the set to go up 1-0. Set two was close at the start, with GVSU holding a narrow 13-10 lead midway through the set, but once again the Lakers ended the set on a roll, closing on a 12-6 run to take the 2-0 lead. In set three, GVSU got off to an 18-6 lead, but the Cougars battled back, making it a two-point game at 22-20, with the Lakers still in the lead. However, the Lakers answered back with the final three points of the match to take their third straight sweep of the season.
 
Kendall Stover had a strong night offensively, leading the team with 12 kills and nine digs, while swinging at a .500 clip. Jordyn Gates and Kate Goudreau each had nine kills, with Gates adding 18 kills and six digs. Rachel Jacquay dished out 16 assists and dug out eight balls. As a team, the Lakers swung at a .494 clip, totaling 48 kills, while also recording six blocks.
 
GVSU is back in action tomorrow for two games, taking on Tiffin at 1 pm then playing Clarion later that night at 7.
