Lakers Extend Win Streak To Six Games With Five Set Thriller Over PNW

HAMMOND, IND. – The GVSU volleyball team capped off a three-game week with their sixth consecutive victory, this time taking down Purdue Northwest in five sets. The Lakers took the first two sets, but the Pride battled back to tie it at two sets apiece, before GVSU put them away in the final set to win 3-2.
 
PNW took an early lead in set one, going up 10-5, but the Lakers responded with a 9-2 run to take a 14-12 lead. The Pride came back within one at 19-18, before GVSU ended the set on a 6-2 run to take it 25-20. In set two, GVSU held a slim 15-12 lead, then they went on a 5-0 scoring run to take a 20-12 lead, and they held on from there, winning that set 25-19. With set three tied at eight, PNW scored eight straight points to take a commanding 16-8 advantage. The Lakers tried to battle back, but never got closer than four points, as the Pride took the third set. The Pride held a 16-11 lead in set four, but the Lakers came back with a 9-0 run to take a 20-16 lead. PNW however, would not be deterred, as they ended the set on a 10-3 run to win in extra points 27-22. In the final set, GVSU got out to a 9-3 lead, while the Pride battled back within three, but never got any close as the Lakers took the winner-take-all final set 15-11.
 
Jordyn Gates added another triple-double, her fifth of the season, as she had 22 kills, 28 assists, and 12 digs, while hitting at a .450 clip. Kendall Stover had 16 kills and 15 digs, with Sarah Wight adding 11 kills and four blocks. Rachel Jacquay had 31 assists and Madison Gates tallied a team-high 16 digs.
