The 2023 Grand Valley State football team will hold an open scrimmage Saturday, August 19 at 7 p.m. in Lubbers Stadium. The Lakers, ranked #3 in the AFCA Coaches' preseason poll, are in the second week of preseason camp. The defending GLIAC Champions return 57 letterwinners, including 26 players that have started games for GVSU during their careers. The Lakers finished 12-1 during the 2022 season and advanced to the NCAA DII Quarterfinals.  Grand Valley State returns six preseason All-America candidates, 12 All-GLIAC honoress and nine GLIAC Player of the Week honorees.
 
GVSU will hit the road for the 2023 season-opener at #2 Colorado School of Mines on Thursday, August 31 in Golden, Colorado. The Lakers claimed a 25-22 victory over Mines in 2022 and Mines later went on to play for the NCAA DII National Championship.
