Lakers Run In NCAA Tournament Ends In The Quarterfinals

WARREN, OHIO – The most successful season in GVSU men's golf history came to a close in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals, as they fell to West Florida 3-1-1. This season the Lakers won a program record 10 tournaments, claimed their ninth GLIAC title, won their first Regional Title in the history of the program, and recorded their highest finish in the NCAA Tournament ever.
 
Results
 
Drew Coble won his matchup by one stroke, carding a round of 75. Coble sank a 12-foot putt on his final hole to claim the matchup victory for the Lakers. Charles DeLong tied his matchup, with a score of 76. Nick Krueger had the best round of day for GVSU, scoring a 71, but fell by one stroke. Charlie Cooley shot a 79 in his matchup, falling by five strokes. In the final matchup, Bryce Wheeler carded an 83, as he dropped his matchup by seven strokes.
 
This season, GVSU won the Arendsen Invitational, the Doc Spragg Invitational, the Folds of Honor Qualifying tournament, and the Motor City Invite in the fall. In the spring, the Lakers claimed victories at Buccaneer Classic, the Ralph Hargett Invitational, the DU Tri-Match, the Ken Patridge Invitational, the GLIAC Tournament, and the Midwest/Central Regional. DeLong won six tournaments as an individual, while Coble claimed two himself.  
 
DeLong, Krueger, Coble, Wheeler, and Cooley were all named All-GLIAC performers this season, with DeLong earning Player of the Year. DeLong, Krueger, and Coble were all All-Region honorees, and DeLong was named an All-American. Head coach Gary Bissell was the GLIAC Coach of the Year and is one of five finalists for the DII Coach of the Year.
