Men's Golf Advances To National Quarterfinals

WARREN, OHIO – For the first time in program history, the GVSU men's golf team will be moving on to the match play portion of the National Tournament. The Lakers ended in a tie for third place, making them one of only eight teams moving on to match play.

Oklahoma Christian won the stroke play championships, ending at -10 and they will be the top seed in the match play quarterfinals. Barry claimed second place, finishing with a +5. GVSU, Lee, and West Florida all tied for third place, shooting eight over for the tournament. Also moving on to the quarterfinals were Nova Southeastern, Sonoma State, and Simon Fraser.
 
Charles DeLong and Bryce Wheeler both finished in a tie for 25th at two over. DeLong shot a final round of 68 (-4) with two birdies and two eagles, while Wheeler's round consisted of two birdies, as he carded a round of 75 (+3). Drew Coble sank two birdies over his round, as he shot a 75 (+3), as he finished at +4 in a tie for 36th at four over. Nick Krueger was tied for 40th, ending with a +5, as he had final round today of 76 (+4) with one birdie. Charlie Cooley carded a 73 (+1) today, recording three birdies in his final five holes, to end at +14 in a tie for 86th, carding a +14 over the three rounds.
 
GVSU will tee off in the quarterfinal round tomorrow morning at 8:20 as the five seed, as they take on the four seeded West Florida.
