WINONA, MINN. – The GVSU men's golf team made history today, as they brought home the first Regional Title in program history. Led by back-to-back Regional Medalist
Charles DeLong, the Lakers won the event by 18 strokes and punched their ticket to the National Tournament.
Results
The Lakers shot a final round of 294 (+10) to claim the first title in the history of the program, as they ended the tournament at five over, 18 strokes ahead of second place Missouri S&T. Joining those two teams in advancing to the National Tournament were third place Maryville, fourth place Washburn, and two teams tied for fifth in Henderson State and Southern Arkansas.
DeLong shot a final round of even par 71, carding two birdies, to end the tournament at six under, earning Regional Medalist for the second consecutive season.
Nick Krueger and
Drew Coble tied for second at one under. Krueger shot a round of 75 (+4) and Coble shot a 74 (+3), as they each had one birdie on the day.
Bryce Wheeler ended tied for 61
st, sinking one birdie today, as he shot a 74 (+3) to end at +13.
Charlie Cooley shot a final round of 83 (+12) to end in a tie for 104
th at twenty-six over.
The Lakers will play in the National Tournament in Warren, Ohio at the Avon Lakes Golf Club from May 22-26.
