DETROIT - The three seeded Grand Valley State women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Midwest Region Finals after defeating six seeded Tiffin 4-0 Monday (May 1) afternoon in Detroit, Michigan. The Lakers improve to 16-6 on the season.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Estefania Hernandez and
Rachel Sam claimed a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. That win was Hernandez and Sam's 12
th win as a doubles pair this season.
Ana Romero Gonzalez and
Amanda Diaz improved to 5-0 as a doubles pair this season after earning a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play,
Vasileia Griva claimed a 6-2, 7-6 straight set win at No. 1 singles for tenth win at the top position.
Taylor Barrett earned singles win number 14 after a 6-3, 6-4 straight set win at No. 2 singles.
Anna Soteras tallied a 6-4, 6-0 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
The Lakers will face Wayne State in the Midwest Region Finals tomorrow (May 2) in Detroit. This will be the third time the two teams have faced each other this season. The Lakers won match one 4-3 in the regular season and Wayne State won the second meeting 4-3 in the GLIAC Tournament Championship. First serve tomorrow is set for 1:00 PM.
