Lakers Fall 5-4 at Davenport on Sunday; Drop 8-7 Decision in Saturday’s Resumed Game

CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Grand Valley State baseball team fell 5-4 at Davenport Sunday (April 30) afternoon and also lost 8-7 in Saturday's resumed game. The Lakers drop to 27-15 on the season, 14-11 in the GLIAC. 
 
The Lakers and Panthers resumed Saturday's game two before the start of today's scheduled game. The game was suspended in the top of the eighth inning with Davenport leading 8-7 due to rain in Allendale. Both teams were held scoreless in the two-remaining innings as the Panthers would hang on for the win. Rylan Peets suffered the loss after tossing three innings allowing six runs (three earned) off five hits with three strikeouts. Logan Wynalda tossed two scoreless innings of relief when the game resumed today.
 
Davenport got on the board early with a leadoff home run to right field. The Panthers would extend the lead to 3-0 in the third. Davenport scored off a double play with the bases load and a two out RBI double. 
 
The Lakers got on the board and tied the game at three in the fifth inning. Kyle Nott led off the inning with a walk. Next batter, Jake Rydquist launched a two-run home run to left field for his second home run of the season. After a pair of singles by Logan Anderson and Conner McCormack, Jonas Gulbrandsen scored Anderson with an RBI groundout to tie the game. The Panthers answered in the bottom half of the half to take a 4-3 lead on a Laker balk.
 
The Lakers found the equalizer in the eighth inning. Justin Mansager reached base on a Panther error. Mansager advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He would score with two outs on a passed ball to tie the game at four. 
 
Davenport notched a one out single and walked it off two batters later on an RBI double to left field to win 5-4. Sam Leck suffered the loss after tossing 1.2 innings of relief striking out one. Mike Morawski got the start and tossed 2.2 innings allowing three runs off three hits with one strikeout. Nino Puckett threw 4.1 innings of relief allowing one run off five hits with three strikeouts. 
 
Conner McCormack led the way offensively batting 3-5 at the plate. Jake Rydquist launched a two-run home run for his second of the season. Kyle Nott batted 1-3 with a run scored. Jonas Gulbrandsen went 1-4 with an RBI, while Justin Mansager hit 1-4 with a run scored.
