HAMMOND, Ind.—The Grand Valley State softball team split a doubleheader against Purdue Northwest on Friday.

GVSU beat the Pride, 4-3, in game one and fell, 5-1, in game two against Purdue Northwest.

Lydia Goble made history, breaking the GVSU career hits record in game one with her 301st career hit.

GVSU moves to 36-4 overall with an 18-1 record in GLIAC play. Purdue Northwest is now 30-20 with a 13-9 conference mark.Â

Game One – GVSU 4, Purdue Northwest 3

Lydia Goble rewrote GVSU softball history in the first game against the Pride. With her single in the top of the sixth inning, she broke the record for career hits in a Laker career with 301.

Goble overtook Katie Martin, whose 300 hits was the career record before Goble's third hit of the game.
Â
Goble got her 300th hit with a solo home run to take the lead in the top of the fifth inning.
Â
GVSU tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Hannah Hollister sent the ball back up the middle with the bases loaded to drive in
Kelsey Komorous and
Morgan Wagner. The two-RBI single gave GVSU a, 4-1, lead.

Purdue Northwest tried to rally in the seventh but were unable to complete a comeback. A two-run home run put the Pride within one run at, 4-3.
Hannah Beatus was able to shut the Pride's comeback attempt down.

Beatus surrendered her first home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning, which gave Purdue Northwest a, 1-0, lead.

Eliana Eiland tied the game up at one run apiece in the fourth inning with an RBI double to bring home Komorous, setting the stage for Goble's go-ahead home run.

Beatus gave up three earned runs on five hits. All three of the runs came via home runs, which were the first she had allowed this season. Beatus struck out nine batters in her 19th victory of the season.

Game Two – GVSU 1, Purdue Northwest 5

The Pride got on the board in the third inning with a two-run home run from the GLIAC leader in home runs Selena Michko, making it, 2-0, Pride.
Â
Purdue Northwest would add two more runs via sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

The Pride tacked on a fifth and final run in the sixth inning on an error from
Lydia Goble.
Â
The Lakers tried to rally in the seventh and got on the board with a sacrifice fly from Goble, making it, 5-1. The comeback attempt fell short and GVSU's 20-game win streak was snapped.

Nevaeh Ingram allowed five runs on just five hits. She struck out four and issued four walks in six innings of work.
