GVSU Claims A 3-2 GLIAC Road Win At Purdue Northwest

Nick Rutkowski picks up his GLIAC-Leading Eighth Win

Grand Valley State picked up a 3-2 GLIAC road win Friday (April 21) at Purdue Northwest. The Lakers, who improve to 24-11 overall and 11-7 in GLIAC action, will play a doubleheader Saturday at Purdue Northwest, with first pitch in game one set for 2 p.m.
 
DH Conner McCormack scored the game-winning run in the top of the eighth. McCormack singled to right, moved to second on a wild pitch, third on a flyout to right off the bat of catcher Brendan Guciardo and then scored on a passed ball when SS Ayden VanEnkevoort was at bat.
 
Junior RHP Nick Rutkowski improved to 8-1 on the year with the win on the mound. Rutkowski yielded five hits, two runs, one of which was earned, with three strikeouts. Logan Wynalda pitched a hitless eighth with a strikeout and Sam Leck picked up his fifth save of the year with a perfect ninth. 
 
Grand Valley State took the lead in the top of the fist when senior CF Spencer Nelson led off the game with a double to right center, moved to third on a groundout to second by LF Kyle Nott and scored on a single to center by 1B Nate Logan. The Lakers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when 2B Connor Schuman led off with a double to right center, moved to third on a flyout to right by DH Conner McCormack and scored on a ground out to SS by RF Justin Mansager. 
 
Purdue Northwest picked up single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
 
Nine different Lakers recorded a hit, led by Nelson and Logan who each tallied a pair of hits. Logan and Mansager each drove in a run.
