SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team claimed their eighth GLIAC regular season championship in program history after defeating Lake Superior State 5-2 on the road Saturday (April 15). The Lakers finish the GLIAC season a perfect 7-0 and 1405 overall.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Estefania Hernandez and
Rachel Sam earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Amanda Diaz and
Ana Romero Gonzalez tallied a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Vasileia Griva and
Taylor Barrett dropped a tough 5-7 decision at No. 1 doubles.
On the singles side,
Taylor Barrett claimed a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 three-set win at No. 2 singles.
Anna Soteras claimed a win by opponent retirement at No. 4 singles.
Estefania Hernandez claimed a dominant 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Ana Romero Gonzalez tallied a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers earned the number one seed in the GLIAC Tournament that will begin next weekend on Friday (April 22) for the quarterfinals.
