Lakers Pick Up Win Number 10 With Big Second Half Versus Walsh

NORTH CANTON, OHIO – After heading into halftime locked in a tight game, the GVSU women's lacrosse team took control in the second half, outscoring Walsh 11-2 over the final 30 minutes to win 16-5. The win was the seventh straight for the Lakers and moved them to 10-4 on the year.
 
After Walsh opened the scoring, GVSU answered back with two straight, as Ella Boose took a pass from Sydney Stone and tied the game up, then Molly Bursinger scored off a free position attempt to put the Lakers in the lead. The Cavaliers got it back before the end of the quarter, and the score was tied at two after one quarter of play.
 
Maddy Champagne and Ashleigh Rothe both netted goals to begin the second quarter as GVSU was doubling up the Cavaliers at 4-2. After a Walsh goal, Zoe Ziegler scored on the very last play of the half to put the Lakers up 5-3 heading into the break.
 
The third quarter was all Lakers, as they outscored Walsh 8-0. Maggie Hammer would score four times in the quarter, Molly Bursinger scored three times, one coming off an assist from Ellie Bernard, and Boose added her second of the game, getting an assist from Hammer, as GVSU led 13-3 heading into the fourth.
 
Hammer scored once more to begin the fourth, followed by a free position goal from Stone to increase the Laker lead. The Cavaliers scored twice to cut into the lead, but Stone found Rothe for the final goal of the contest, giving the Lakers the 11-goal victory.
 
Maggie Hammer scored five goals, all in the second half, to lead the Lakers offensively. Molly Bursinger added four goals, while Ella Boose and Ashleigh Rothe each scored twice. Zoe Ziegler, Maddy Champagne, and Sydney Stone each scored once. Stone added two assists and Hammer and Bernard both dished out one. Champagne controlled seven draws, while Stone had five, as GVSU won 20 of the 22 draw controls.
 
Sarah Krause picked up another win in net, bringing her record to 6-0 this season, as she saved four shots. Bursinger and Rothe each grabbed three groundballs and Ziegler added two.
