Laker Softball Beats Concordia-St. Paul, Falls to Northwood

CLERMONT, Fla.—The Grand Valley State softball team split a pair of games in the second day of competition at The Spring Games. The Lakers beat Concordia-St. Paul, 5-3, in their first game, and fell to Northwood, 9-4, in their second game.
 
GAME 1 – GVSU 5, Concordia-St. Paul 3
 
The Laker offense accounted for 15 hits against Concordia-St. Paul and five Lakers had multi-hit games.
 
Lydia Goble drove in four of the five GVSU runs in Monday's first game.
 
Goble kicked off the scoring with a two-run home run, scoring herself and Kaitlin Lynch to give GVSU a, 2-0, lead in the first inning. She drove in Joanna Cirrincione with an RBI single to center field in the second inning and hit an RBI double in the sixth inning to put GVSU up, 4-0.
 
Concordia-St. Paul got on the board in the bottom half of the sixth inning with a three-run home run from Danni Sharum. That one hit made it a, 4-3, game heading into the seventh inning.
 
In the top half of the final frame, Kylie Sinal scored on a Megan Koenigshof single to give GVSU a, 5-3, lead. In the bottom half of the seventh, Concordia-St. Paul would get a runner on, but were unable to get them past first base.
 
Ashley Platek (3-0) was in the circle for the Lakers and pitched a complete game. Platek surrendered just five hits, one of which accounted for all three runs she allowed. Platek struck out one batter and issued two walks in her third victory of the season.
 
GAME 2 – GVSU 4, Northwood 9
 
GVSU gave up nine runs, including a seven-run third inning, in a, 9-4, loss to Northwood.
 
After giving up seven runs in the top of the third inning, GVSU was able to score once in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly from Lydia Goble, which scored Megan Koenigshof.
 
Down, 8-1, in the bottom of the fifth, Morgan Wagner hit an RBI double to score Kaitlin Lynch. Morgan Spicer then hit a sacrifice fly to score Joanna Cirrincione.
 
The sixth inning for the Lakers saw an RBI single from Lynch to end the GVSU scoring efforts.
 
Nevaeh Ingram started in the circle, allowing seven earned runs with three strikeouts and issuing six walks. 
 
Christine Duch entered in relief, allowing one earned run. She struck out one batter in her Laker debut.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Lakers (7-2) are back for two more games on Tuesday. They are set to take on Minnesota State-Mankato at 2 p.m. and have a matchup set with No. 10 Seton Hill at 4:30 p.m.
