Women's Lacrosse Drops Game To Regis

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Grand Valley women's lacrosse team closed out their trip to Colorado with a game against eighth ranked Regis. After a tight first quarter, the Rangers used a big second period to take control of the game and hold on for a 14-10 victory.
 
The two teams traded goals in the first quarter, with GVSU getting goals from Zoe Ziegler off an assist from Maddy Champagne, the Champagne scored one herself, before assisting on another one, this one scored by Ellie Bernard to tie the game at three after one quarter.
 
Regis scored seven goals in the second quarter to take the lead, with the Lakers only managing to get a goal from Molly Bursinger and trailed 10-4 at the break.
 
After Regis got one to open the second half, the Lakers responded with three straight, getting scores from Hailey Crittenden off a pass from Bernard, an unassisted goal from Champagne, and then a goal from Sydney Stone off a pass from Maggie Hammer to make the score 11-7 heading into the final 15 minutes.
 
The Rangers opened the fourth with two more goals, before GVSU responded with goals from Hammer, off an assist from Bursinger, and Stone. After a Ranger goal, Kate DeYoung scored her first of the goal, with Bursinger again assisting on the play, but it was not enough, as the Lakers fell to 2-2 on the season.
 
Maddy Champagne and Sydney Stone each scored twice, while Zoe Ziegler, Ellie Bernard, Hailey Crittenden, Molly Bursinger, Maggie Hammer, and Kate DeYoung each scored once. Champagne and Bursinger had two assists, while Hammer and Bernard had one each. Hammer and Kylie Waeghe each picked up four groundballs, and Champagne and Bursinger each grabbed four draw controls.
 
Up Next
The Lakers have two games this coming week, starting off with a game at Findlay on Friday at noon, followed by the home opener on Sunday against Indianapolis also at noon.
