CLERMONT, Fla.—The Grand Valley State softball team split a pair of games to open up competition at The Spring Games on Sunday, defeating Glenville State in an, 8-0, five-inning run rule and dropping a, 1-0, result against St. Cloud State.

GAME 1 – GVSU 8, Glenville State 0
Â
The Lakers only needed five innings to defeat Glenville State by eight runs.
Â
The Lakers batted around in the first inning and posted a 6-spot to take an early lead.
Â
Lydia Goble started the scoring with an RBI double. After a
Morgan Wagner walk,
Jenna Ballard drove in Goble and Wagner to push the GVSU lead to, 3-0.
Paige Ligocki hit a two-run double to score Ballard and
Hannah Hollister, making it, 5-0.
Megan Koenigshof closed out the first inning with a groundout that scored the sixth Laker run of the inning.

GVSU scored twice more in the next inning to cap off the eight-run performance. Goble hit her second RBI double of the game to score
Joanna Cirrincione. Wagner was the next batter in the box and drove in Goble with a single.

The Lakers would leave the bases loaded in the second inning, but they had enough to earn a run-rule victory.

Nevaeh Ingram had an impressive performance in the circle, tossing the first no-hitter of her career. Ingram struck out five batters and issued two walks for the Lakers in five innings of work.

GAME 2 – GVSU 0, St. Cloud State 1
Â
St. Cloud State manufactured the only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. An error by
Lydia Goble after a single put runners on second and third. The next St. Cloud State batter hit a fielder's choice and drove in a run.

Goble and
Hannah Hollister had the only hits of the game for GVSU.
Â
Hannah Beatus pitched six innings and allowed just two hits and struck out nine batters. She also allowed the lone run of the game.

The Lakers (6-1) return to the diamond for a pair of games Monday from The Sunshine State. GVSU is set for an 11:30 a.m. first pitch against Concordia - St. Paul and will take on Northwood at 2 p.m.
