Lakers fall at Davenport Tuesday

Drop to 14-6 on the season

CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Grand Valley State baseball team fell 16-4 at Davenport Tuesday (March 28) afternoon. The Lakers drop to 14-6 on the season and 3-2 in GLIAC action.
 
Davenport jumped out to the lead early in the first inning off two RBI singles for a 2-0 lead. The Lakers cut the deficit in half in the top of the second. Jake Rydquist led off the inning with a single to center field. Later in the inning with two outs, Ayden VanEnkevort singled to right field to score Brendan Guciardo. Davenport responded with two more runs in the second and four runs in the third to take an 8-1 lead.
 
GVSU notched three runs in the fourth inning to cut the Panther lead to 8-4. Logan Anderson led the inning off with a double off the left field wall. Ayden VanEnkevort hit an infield to advance Anderson to third. Next batter, Carter Rohman singled through the left side to score Anderson. After VanEnkevort and Rohman advanced to second and third off a groundout, Kyle Nott scored VanEnkevort off an RBI groundout. Next batter, Nathan Logan singled down the left field line to score Rohman. 
 
Davenport answered the Lakers three run inning with a five-run inning in the bottom half of the fourth inning to take a 13-4 lead. The Panthers then added three more runs in the sixth to take a 16-4 lead. 
 
Nathan Logan led the Laker offense going 3-4 at the plate with an RBI. Carter Rohman batted 2-3 with a run scored and run batted in. Ayden VanEnkevort and Logan Anderson each went 2-4 with a run scored, while VanEnkevort notched an RBI. Jonas Gulbrandsen and Jake Rydquist each notched a hit. 
 
Allan Thorington got the start and suffered the loss (1-1) after tossing 2.1 innings pitched. Will Goebel tossed three innings of relief, while Same Leck threw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.
 
The Lakers will continue GLIAC play this weekend when they host #12 Wayne State for a doubleheader on Friday (March 31) at 1:00 PM in the first home game of the season. GVSU will then host Parkside on Sunday (April 2) in a doubleheader at 1:00 PM.
