VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Grand Valley State men's track and field team placed third at the NCAA Division II Nationals with an overall score of 29 points, falling shortly behind Adams State in second with a score of 42 points. The Laker women finished sixth at the NCAA Nationals with a total score of 35, falling behind Winona State (5
th) with a score of 36 points.
Sophomore,
Myles Kerner brought home an individual National Title in the men's shot put for the Lakers on Day Two of the NCAA Championships, earning them an additional 10 points. Kerner placed first with a new personal best distance of 19.71m, in addition to breaking the Virginia Beach Sports Center facility record of 19.11m.
Jonathan Rankins-James finished third in the men's high jump clearing a new personal-best of 2.18m, adding six points onto the Lakers final score.
Eli Kosiba placed sixth overall clearing a height of 2.15m.
Emma Richards finished fifth in the women's shot put with a distance of 15.16m.
On the track for the women,
Taryn Chapko and
Natalie Graber led the Lakers to their sixth-place finish as both athletes placed third in their respective events. Chapko took home a third-place finish in the women's 800m with a time of 2:07.27 while Graber finished third in the women's 3000m with a new personal-best time of 9:09.42.
Klaudia O'Malley placed fifth for the Lakers in the women's mile with a time of 4:52.83.
The men's 4x400 relay consisting of
Ben Ireland,
Jackson Blanchard,
Fallou Gaye and
Myles Rhodes rounded out the Lakers final score as they claimed third overall in the 4x400 with a time of 3:11.07.
