Lakers Shut Out Wayne State (Neb.) and Notre Dame College (Ohio)

CLERMONT, Fla.—The Grand Valley State softball team won a pair of games via shutout on Friday in Florida, defeating Wayne State College (Neb.), 3-0, and beating Notre Dame College (Ohio), 15-0.
 
GAME 1 – GVSU 3, Wayne State College (Neb.) 0
 
Morgan Wagner drove in all three of the Laker runs against Wayne State College (Neb.).
 
She kicked off the GVSU scoring efforts with a single to left field, driving in Kaitlin Lynch to give the Lakers a, 1-0, lead. 
 
Wagner drove in the next run in the bottom of the third inning. With runners on second and third, she hit a fly ball to center field and drove in Lynch again, this time on a sacrifice fly. GVSU led it, 2-0, after three innings.
 
The redshirt-senior from Coloma struck again in the fifth inning, singling in Lydia Goble for the final run of the game.
 
Goble, Wagner and Joanna Cirrincione all had multi-hit games for the Lakers.
 
Nevaeh Ingram started in the circle for GVSU. She tossed a six-hit shutout to earn her third victory of the season. The reigning GLIAC Pitcher of the Week struck out eight batters and issued just one walk. 
 
GAME 2 – GVSU 15, Notre Dame College (Ohio) 0
 
GVSU's offense went on a tear to take down Notre Dame College.
 
The Lakers put up eight runs in the seventh inning alone after entering the frame with a, 7-0, lead.
 
Alexis McCullough started the scoring outburst in the final inning of play when she reached on an error but picked up an RBI as Morgan Spicer scored on the play. Kylie Sinal then singled to center field to drive in MaryJane Goodman. McCullough then scored on a Chrstine Duch fielder's choice with the bases loaded to make it a, 10-0, Laker lead.
 
Morgan Wagner doubled home Duch and Hannah Hollister. That double accounted for two of Wagner's three RBIs in the game. Wagner went 5-for-5 in the batter's box against Notre Dame College.
 
Spicer singled to left field to make it a, 13-0, game before Goodman doubled home Spicer and Joanna Cirrincione to cap off the eight-run inning.
 
GVSU kicked off the game with a two-run first inning. A Lydia Goble groundout scored the first Laker run as Hannah Hollister scored on the play. Wagner then singled home Kaitlin Lynch.
 
The Lakers tacked on two more in the third inning as Goble scored on a Cirrincione groundout and Wagner scored on a single from Jenna Ballard.
 
A three-run sixth inning set the table for the, 7-0, Laker lead headed into the final inning. In the sixth inning, Lynch hit an RBI double and Goble hit a single to center field that scored two runs.
 
In the circle, Hannah Beatus was dominant for the Lakers. She threw seven shutout innings and allowed just two hits. Beatus threw seven strikeouts and did not issue a walk. She has totaled 50 strikeouts in seven appearances and has not allowed an earned run.

The Lakers' (13-2) play their final day in Florida, taking on Pittsburgh at Johnstown at 9 a.m. and follow it up with the final game of The Spring Games against Southwest Minnesota State at 11:30 a.m.
