Lakers fall 7-4 at Indianapolis

Will travel to Florida for spring break trip next weekend

INDIANAPOLIS – The Grand Valley State baseball team dropped the final game of the series 7-4 at Indianapolis Sunday (Feb. 26) afternoon. The Lakers fall to 0-3 on the season, while Indianapolis improves to 6-0.
 
The Lakers got off to a fast start scoring two runs in the top of the first. Spencer Nelson led off the game with a hit by pitch followed by a Kyle Nott walk. Nathan Logan reached on an error that scored Nelson and Guciardo recorded an RBI that brought Nott home. Indianapolis tied the game in the bottom half of the inning off a leadoff solo home run and an RBI single.
 
The Lakers regained the lead in the third inning off an infield RBI single by Jake Rydquist. GVSU would score again to make it a two-run lead in the fourth inning. Conner Mccormack led off the inning with a single and scored off a steal attempt to second. Indianapolis responded with a run in the bottom half of the fourth off an RBI double. The Greyhounds would take 5-4 lead in the 6th with a solo home run followed by a wild pitch. Indianapolis added two more runs with a two-run home run in the seventh inning to make it 7-4.
 
Conner McCormack led the Lakers with two hits and a run scored. Kyle Nott went 1-3 at the dish with two runs scored. Jake Rydquist and Brendan Guciardo each had an RBI, while Nathan Logan and Ayden VanEnkevort each notched a hit. Colby Phipps got the start on the mound and went five innings allowing four runs off nine hits, while striking out three. Nino Puckett suffered the loss for the Lakers. Logan Wynalda tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief.
 
The Lakers are back in action when they travel to Florida for their spring break trip. GVSU will play 10 games in seven days beginning on March 6 in Auburndale, Florida. Follow @gvsubaseball on Twitter for live in-game updates all week long.
