MIDLAND, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team swept Northwood 7-0 Friday afternoon to improve their win streak to five. The Lakers improved their record to 5-2 on the season, while Northwood falls to 1-4.
The Lakers claimed the doubles with wins No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Vasileia Griva and
Taylor Barrett earned a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and improved to 5-1 as a pair at the No. 1 position.
Rachel Sam and
Estefania Hernandez tallied a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Sophia Hanover and
Leonie Leister lost a tough 3-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.
On the singles side,
Vasileia Griva claimed a 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles to improve to 3-1 on the season from the No. 1 position.
Taylor Barrett earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
Rachel Sam tallied a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win at No. 3 singles, improving to 6-1 in singles action on the season.
Anna Soteras cruised to a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.
Estefania Hernandez claimed a 6-4, 6-0 straight set win at no. 5 singles, while
Ana Romero Gonzalez tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers return to the courts tomorrow (Feb. 25) when they host Hillsdale. First serve is set for 5:00 PM at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club.
