Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Falls To Rollins

WINTER PARK, FL – The Grand Valley women's lacrosse team finished out the Florida trip with a matchup against tenth-ranked Rollins. After falling behind in the first half, the Lakers made a valiant comeback attempt, but it fell just short, as they dropped the game 15-11.

After Rollins got the scoring started with a goal, GVSU answered back quickly as Hailey Crittenden found Sydney Stone for a goal to even the score at one. The Tars would respond with four consecutive goals to end the quarter up 5-1.

That momentum carried over into the second quarter, as Rollins netted three goals to open the period, before the Lakers broke that run with a goal from Maggie Hammer. The Tars would get one more before the half and led 9-2 at the break.

GVSU responded well in the second half, as Maddy Champagne traded two goals with Rollins to make it 11-4. After another Tar goal, Champagne scored again, followed by the first goal of the season for Ashleigh Rothe, cutting it to 12-6. The Tars struck once more, but GVSU was there to answer once more, getting goals from Molly Bursinger, Hammer struck again, this one off a pass from Kate DeYoung, and Bursinger closed out the quarter with her second goal, making it 13-9 heading into the final period.

Crittenden cut the deficit to three with a goal off an assist from Zoe Ziegler. But that was as close as the Lakers would get, as the Tars struck twice more in the quarter, and withstood the Lakers comeback attempt, with Rothe her second goal to cut it to four with five minutes left, but that was the last goal of the game, as Rollins came out with the 15-11 win.

Maddy Champagne had another hat trick this morning, scoring three times, while also picking up seven groundballs. Maggie Hammer, Molly Bursinger, and Ashleigh Rothe all scored twice, while Hailey Crittenden and Sydney Stone each netted one goal. Crittenden, Kate DeYoung, and Zoe Ziegler all dished out an assist. In addition to Champagne, Bursinger, Rothe, and Stone all picked up multiple groundballs. Kaylyn Cater saved a career-high 11 shots in net.
