DETROIT, MICH. – It was the final road game of the regular season for the Lakers as they traveled to the east side to take on Wayne State. After a battle in the first quarter, GVSU pulled away in the second and third to win 79-60 and clinch a share of the GLIAC Regular Season Title. The win moved the Lakers to 24-2 overall and 15-1 in conference play, still a game and a half up on Michigan Tech.
Wayne State started the game hot, as the Warriors jumped out to a 13-8 lead with under four minutes to play in the first quarter. The Lakers responded with a 13-6 run to end the quarter to lead 21-19 heading into the second quarter.
GVSU found their rhythm from behind the arc in the second quarter, as
Emily Spitzley and
Hannah Kulas would each hit two triples, while
Nicole Kamin added one of her own and the Lakers put up 25 points in the quarter to lead 46-34 at the break.
The Lakers started the second half on a 7-2 run, as Kamin would hit a layup, followed by an
Ellie Droste three, and capped off by a
Courtney Sharland layup.
Rylie Bisballe would draw a foul on a made layup and hit the free throw to finish the three-point play and make it 56-40 midway through the quarter. That sparked a 7-0 run as the Lakers pushed the lead up to 20 points and held that margin going into the fourth quarter up 66-46.
A 6-1 run to open the fourth quarter gave the Lakers their largest lead of the game at 25, and from there they cruised the rest of the way, picking up their 18
th straight win over Wayne State.
Emily Spitzley had a big game to lead the Lakers, as she put up the first double-double of the season for any Laker, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Hannah Kulas also scored 15 points, shooting 5-7 from the field.
Rylie Bisballe had 11 points, while
Nicole Kamin scored 10.
Abrie Cabana had nine points, four rebounds, and four assists, while
Hadley Miller had six points and seven rebounds. The Lakers dominated the glass, outrebounding the Warriors 44-30.

The Lakers close out the regular season at home next week, playing Lake Superior State on Thursday at 6pm, before playing Ferris State on Saturday at 1:00pm, with that game being Senior Day.
