GVSU Wrestling Ranked 16th Nationally In NWCA Poll

Grand Valley State is ranked #16 nationally in the latest poll released by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. The Lakers' moved up four spots after an impressive 13th-place finish at the nationally acclaimed Midwest Classic. Central Oklahoma and West Liberty are tied for first with 69 points, followed by Lander (3/59 pts), Parkside (4/51 pts) and Lake Erie (5/50 pts). GVSU is ranked fourth regionally behind West Liberty, Lake Erie and Ashland. 

The Lakers have four wrestlers that are ranked nationally and seven that entered the regional ledger. Freshman Aaron Lucio (125/8-6) is first regionally and eighth nationally, while fellow freshman Collin Twigg (133/12-6) is sixth regionally. Sophomore Chris Donathan (149/15-0) is first regionally and third nationally, freshman Trammel Robinson (165/18-7) is third regionally, sophomore Josh Kenny (174/15-3) is first regionally and third nationally. Senior Seth Konynenbelt (184/14-8) is fourth regionally and sophomore Wyatt Miller (197/14-2) is first regionally and 12th nationally. 

GVSU, under the direction of Joey Simcoe, is wrestling as a varsity sport for the first time in 32 years in 2023. The Lakers will return to action on January 6 at the Pitt-Johnstown duals where they will face #9 UNC-Pembroke, Frostburg State and #11 Pitt-Johnstown.
