Women's Basketball Stay Undefeated With Big Win

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball team returned home for the first time since the opening weekend, and like those two games, the Lakers came away victorious. GV welcomed in D'Youville this afternoon and dominated the Saints in their 68-26 victory. The win keeps the second-ranked team in the nation undefeated, moving to 6-0 this season.

Nicole Kamin got the scoring started in the first quarter, knocking down a three on the Lakers second possession of the game. That triple started a 12-0 run for GVSU, capped off by an Abrie Cabana three-pointer. The Saints didn't get on the board until 2:37 left in the opening period and trailed 14-5 after the quarter.

After D'Youville got the first points of the second quarter, Grand Valley answered with a 16-0 scoring run, getting threes from Molly Anderson and Hadley Miller during that span. The Saints would get the final bucket of the half, but GVSU held a 30-9 lead at the break.

In the opening possession of the second half, Ellie Droste drilled a triple to push the Lakers lead up to 24 points. GV continued to increase their lead after that, going up by 30 points a few minutes later off a Rylie Bisballe and-1 layup. The Lakers would hold that advantage for most of the remaining quarter until Cabana hit a fadeaway jumper at the buzzer, putting GVSU up 50-18 at the end of 30 minutes.

The Lakers got five quick points to open the fourth quarter, following a three from Miller and a Megan Crow layup. After a 5-0 run from the Saints, GVSU went on a 9-2 run to end the game, getting threes from Avery Zeinstra and two from Anderson to close out another home victory.

All 11 players who saw time in the game scored in the game, with three scoring in double-figures. Rylie Bisballe led all scorers with 12 points, while pulling down eight rebounds as well. Paige Vanstee and Molly Anderson each scored 11 points, with Vanstee grabbing eight rebounds and Anderson added four boards and three assists. The Lakers outrebounded the Saints 50-27 this afternoon.
