BOSTON, MA - The Grand Valley State men's and women's track and field distance crew opened their 2023-2024 season at the Sharon-Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University.

The distance crew traveled to Boston this weekend with 10 Lakers competing within three different events, the mile, 3000m and 5000m.Â

On the women's side,
Klaudia O'Malley finished in 28th out of 132 Division I and II athletes in the 3000m, with a new personal-best time of 9:17.61. In the women's 5000m,
Ana Tucker finished in 82
nd with a time of 16:28.07, followed by
Kayce Rypma (102
nd) in a time of 16:40.82,
Allie Arnsman (112
th) with a time of 16:47.35 and
Sarah May (120
th) recording a time of 16:52.95.Â

On the men's side,
Caleb Futter recorded a new personal-best time in the men's 3000m of 8:00.81, earning 27
th out of 106 overall.
Scott Spaanstra competed in the men's mile finishing in 42
nd with a time of 4:19.52. In the men's 5000m,
Koby Fraaza recorded a new personal-best time of 14:05.68, followed by
Tanner Chada in a time of 14:18.61.

The Grand Valley State men's and women's track and field team will fully open their 2023-2024 track and field season next weekend (Friday, December 8
th) at the GVSU Holiday Open hosted in Allendale, Michigan.Â
