ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team improved to 2-2 on the season after defeating Findlay 81-70 Tuesday (Nov. 21) night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU outrebounded Findlay 49-27 and hauled in a season high 23 offensive rebounds.
Marius Grazulis led the way for the Lakers with 23 points on 11-22 shooting while also hauling in a career high 19 rebounds including 10 offensive.
Mason Docks scored 15 points off the bench going 2-2 behind the arc.
Britain Harris notched 13 points with five rebounds and swiped a career high four steals.
William Dunn added 10 points and has scored in double figures in all four games for the Lakers.
Findlay came out strong and scored the first six points of the game. The Oilers would push their lead to eight before the Lakers would go on a 7-0 run to bring the deficit to one at the first media timeout. Midway through the first half, Findlay would push their lead back to eight before the Lakers would respond again by tying the game at 25 with five minutes left in the half. GVSU would take a 39-37 lead into the locker room after
Jalen Charity hit a layup with under a minute left in the half.
In the second half, the Lakers began the half on a 12-4 run to increase the lead to double figures for the first time of the night. Findlay would cut the Laker lead in half, but a layup by Grazulis followed by a Harris three pushed the lead back to ten with under 12 minutes remaining.
Following the under 12 media timeout, Findlay would go on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 59-59 with just over eight minutes to go. Docks would give the Lakers the led again with a three from the right wing.
With just under three minutes remaining,
Trevor Smith drained a three with the shot clock winding down to give the Lakers a 77-67 lead. The very next possession, Smith would knock down a toughly contested layup that would seal the win for the Lakers.
