ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season under a dominate 105-63 win over Quincy in the home opener Saturday (Nov. 18) night. The Lakers improve to 1-2 on the season, while Quincy falls to 2-2.
Six Lakers scored in double figures in the win with
Britain Harris leading all scorers with 17 points on 6-10 shooting from the field.
Marius Grazulis finished with a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
William Dunn scored 16 points on 5-6 shooting and 3-3 from three. Dunn has now scored in double figures in all three games.
Trevon Gunter notched 13 points and led all players with a plus 42 rating.
Charles Turner added a career high 12 points on a perfect 4-4 shooting including going 3-3 from downtown off the bench.
The Lakers never trailed at any point during the game. GVSU shot 12-24 from three and 37-65 from the field. The Lakers out rebounded Quincy 50-24 including 14 offensive rebounds while holding Quincy to just two.
GVSU opened the game on a 7-0 run through the first three minutes of play. The Lakers would extend the lead to double digits on a Turner three and would push it to 14 off a three by Gunter with four and a half minutes remaining in the first half. GVSU would get their largest lead in the half off a driving layup by
Trevor Smith right before the buzzer to give the Lakers a 46-26 lead heading into the locker room.
GVSU would continue to push the lead and would get it to 30 just under halfway through the second half on a layup by
Javion Otten. Turner and Dunn hit back-to-back threes to extend the lead to 32 with just uner eight minutes to play. The Lakers would end the game outscoring Quincy by 10 points to claim the dominate 42-point win.
