Volleyball Advances to GLIAC Championship With Win Over Michigan Tech

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball team took care of business in the GLIAC Tournament semifinal, taking down Michigan Tech in four sets to advance to the Championship game. The Lakers set up a showdown with Ferris State tomorrow for the GLIAC Tournament crown.

The Lakers won the match by the scores of 25-13, 25-10, 23-25, and 25-16. GVSU got out to a quick 13-4 lead in the first set, setting the tone for the rest of the match. The Huskies came back to get it closer at 16-9, but the Lakers responded with a 5-0 run and cruised from there to take the set. The second set was all Lakers, as they dominated from the opening serve. They used two mid-set 7-0 runs to take control and win the second set. The third set was back-and-forth, until late, when Tech used a 4-0 run to go up 20-19. From there they held off the Laker sweep and forced a fourth set. In that final set, GVSU went up 9-4 early on, keeping the Huskies at bay, never letting them closer than three points the rest of the way to win the semifinal matchup.
