Lakers Fall In GLIAC Championship

Box Score ALLENDALE, MICH. – For the third time this season, the GVSU volleyball team matched up against Ferris State, this time with the GLIAC Tournament Championship up for grabs. Across four hard fought sets, Ferris State was able to come out on top 3-1.
 
The Lakers took the first set 25-18, but fell in the next three 22-25, 25-27, and 22-25. GVSU dominated set one, racing out to an 11-4 lead. They extended their lead up to 22-11, but Ferris made a late 7-2 run to bring them within six, but Jordyn Gates ended the set with a kill to give the Lakers the set one win. Throughout set two, both teams would make short little runs to take over the lead, until late in the set when GVSU was up 21-19, and the Bulldogs used a 6-1 run to close out the set and tie the match at one. In set three, Ferris held a slim 12-10 lead before going on an 8-3 run to lead 20-13. The Lakers responded from there, going on a 12-4 run to lead 25-24. The Bulldogs would be able to hold off the Lakers, getting the final three points of the set to take a 2-1 lead. The Bulldogs again used a mid-set scoring run to take a 20-14 lead, but once again the Lakers answered back, cutting it to 21-19 late in the set. Ferris was able to regroup and close out the set and the match to take the tournament title.
 
Sarah Wight had 14 kills on a .367 hitting percentage, while Jordyn Gates also had 14 kills, adding 27 assists and 24 digs. Kendall Stover had 12 kills and 21 digs, while Meghan O'Sullivan and Brianna Stawski each had 10 kills. Rachel Jacquay dished out 26 assists and Julia Blaney had 15 digs.
