Lakers Hold On Against Findlay To Move To 3-0

FINDLAY, OHIO – The GVSU women's basketball team traveled out for their first road contest of the season, traveling down to Findlay in a matchup of 2-0 teams. After falling behind early, the Lakers used a second half comeback to remain undefeated with a 58-53 victory.

After Hadley Miller scored the opening basket of the game, Findlay went on an 11-0 run to take a nine-point lead with less than five minutes to go in the first quarter. GVSU answered back with a run of their own, as Abrie Cabana hit threes on consecutive possessions, then Rylie Bisballe scored five straight, and Megan Crow ended the 14-0 run with a layup to put GVSU up 16-11 at the end of one.

The lead got pushed to seven to open the second period off a Cabana layup, but the Oilers began to chip away after that, eventually retaking the lead at the half, up 31-29 after 20 minutes.

After the deficit got brought up to five to begin the half, a quick 6-0 run by the Lakers gave them the lead back once again at 35-34. After two Oiler free throws, Paige Vanstee hit a triple to put GVSU up once again, before Findlay got the lead back after a 5-0 run, GVSU scored the final four points of the quarter to lead 44-41 heading into the final quarter.

After trading buckets to open the fourth, the Oilers took a 47-46 lead off a three-pointer, but that would be their last lead, as Crow scored four straight points to put them up 52-47. From there the Lakers held on and hit some free throws to close out the game and move to 3-0.

Abrie Cabana exploded for a career-high 17 points, while also adding five rebounds and three steals. Rylie Bisballe scored 10 points, also grabbing six rebounds, and blocking five shots. Megan Crow had 11 points, while Nicole Kamin had six rebounds and three assists.
