ALLENDALE, MICH. – Heading into the final weekend of the regular season, the GVSU women's volleyball team controlled their destiny in the GLIAC regular season standings. They did nothing but help themselves tonight, as they swept Purdue Northwest and clinched a share of the GLIAC regular season title, giving themselves a chance to secure it outright tomorrow in the season finale.
 
Before the game, the Lakers honored the careers of 
Madison Gates, 
Sarah Wight, 
Rachel Jacquay, 
Isabella Kandes, and 
Carley Baughman. These five players have been a part of 84 victories, a newly clinched share of a GLIAC regular season title, and one trip to the NCAA Tournament.
 
GVSU took the match by the scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-21. After GVSU took an early 8-7 lead, PNW went on a 5-0 run to take a 12-8 lead. They controlled much of the next stretch of the match, increasing their lead up to 21-15, forcing a Laker timeout. Following the timeout, the Lakers responded, ending the set on a 10-1 run to complete the comeback and the win the set. The Lakers took the first point of the second set, and never let the Pride get closer than two points, as they cruised to the set two victory. Much like the first set, PNW held a late lead in set three, this time at 20-17, and again the Lakers answered back, this time with an 8-1 run to end the set and match. The victory moves the Lakers to 23-3 on the year and 15-2 in GLIAC play.
 
Jordyn Gates recorded another triple-double, as she had 12 kills, 17 assists, and 12 digs, and she also added five total blocks. 
Kendall Stover had a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs, while 
Rachel Jacquay had 20 assists, 
Madison Gates added 12 digs, 
Julia Blaney had 11, and 
Brianna Stawski tallied four blocks.

The Lakers close out the regular season against Parkside tomorrow afternoon at 4:00. GVSU will have a chance to secure the outright GLIAC regular season title with a victory tomorrow or a Ferris State loss.
