ALLENDALE, MICH. – The 2023 GLIAC regular season title will reside in Allendale this year, as the Laker volleyball team secured the outright crown following their four-set victory over Parkside in the regular season finale! This marks the first time since 2013 that GVSU has won the regular season title and ensures they will have home court advantage throughout next week's GLIAC tournament.
GVSU swept the season series with the Rangers, taking today's match by the scores of 25-17, 25-21, 28-30, and 25-18. Parkside got out to an 11-9 lead, but the Lakers answered back with a 16-6 run to end the set and take a 1-0 lead. Set two saw GVSU go up 12-6, but this time it was Parkside coming back, as they cut it to 22-20 late in the set. GVSU however, would hold on, winning the second set of the match. The third set was close for the entire time, with neither team going up by more than three. Both teams had multiple set points to put it away, but it went extra points, before the Rangers pulled out the win. The Lakers went up early in set four, at 8-6, but the Rangers answered back to tie it at 10 apiece. From there it was all GVSU, as they ended on a 15-8 run to take the match and the GLIAC title!
Jordyn Gates had a monster triple-double, totaling 19 kills, 29 assists, and 14 digs.
Meghan O'Sullivan had 13 kills and three blocks, while
Sarah Wight recorded 12 kills, and
Brianna Stawski had 10 kills and five blocks.
Kendall Stover tallied nine kills and 17 digs, with
Rachel Jacquay having 31 assists and 12 digs.
