ALLENDALE, MICH. – It was a good Homecoming Weekend for the GVSU women's volleyball team, as they swept the weekend, closing it out with a four-set victory over Michigan Tech this afternoon. The win keeps the Lakers perfect on the home floor, at 10-0, and moves them to 19-3 on the season and 11-2 in GLIAC play.
The Lakers won the match by the scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-19, and 25-20. Neither team was able to pull away from one another for most of the first set, until the Lakers used a 6-0 run as the teams were tied at 17 to get a comfortable lead and hold on for the set one win. The Huskies answered back in the second, closing the set on an 8-2 run to comeback and tie the match at one. GVSU got off to a hot start in the third set, racing up 9-3, and withheld a couple of MTU runs, but never giving up the lead to retake their advantage in the match. The Lakers once again got off to a quick start in the fourth set, going up 6-1. The Huskies battled back to take a 12-11 lead, but the Lakers responded with at 7-2 lead to retake the lead and hold off MTU, as GVSU got their revenge on the Huskies from earlier this season.
Jordyn Gates tallied another triple-double, recording 24 kills, 23 assists, and 10 digs, also blocking five Husky attacks.
Meghan O'Sullivan and
Sarah Wight each notched 11 kills , while
Kendall Stover had eight kills and 12 digs.
Rachel Jacquay had 25 assists, with
Madison Gates getting 13 digs and
Julia Blaney had 12.
