Lakers Get Back In The Win Column With Sweep Of NMU

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball team began Homecoming weekend in style knocking off Northern Michigan in straight sets. The win gives the Lakers the season sweep over the Wildcats and moves to 18-3 on the year.

The Lakers took the match by the scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 28-26. In set one, the Wildcats held a slim 9-8 lead, but GVSU went on a 5-0 run to take the lead, one they would never relinquish and took the first set of the match. The Lakers got out to an early 7-3 lead in the second set, and held that lead the rest of the way, as Northern got their deficit down to one point, but never got any closer as GVSU went up 2-0. The final set was close throughout, until the Lakers went on a 6-0 run to go up by five points and they eventually went up 24-20. NMU was able to battle back, going up 25-24, but the Lakers held off set point twice to eventually take the third set, ending the match with an ace from Sarah Wight.
