ALLENDALE, MICH. – It was the battle of the Lakers this evening, as Lake Superior State made the trip down to Allendale, but one Laker reigned superior, with GVSU dominating LSSU to the tune of a three-set sweep.
GVSU took the match by the scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-20. In the first set, LSSU took a 6-4 lead, but that would be the last time they would be in front the entire night, as GVSU went on an 8-1 run to take the lead at 12-7. Grand Valley continued their dominance the remainder of the set, as they went on a late 6-0 scoring run to ice the game and take a 1-0 lead. Grand Valley blitzed out to a 15-5 lead in the second set and never gave LSSU a chance, winning the second set by 11 points. Once again, GVSU had a big lead early on, going up 9-1. Lake State answered back with a 5-1 run, bringing them within four. LSSU brought it down to three at 20-17, but they never got any closer, as GVSU closed out the sweep.
Sarah Wight had a dominant night, tallying 12 kills on a .588 hitting percentage, blocking seven LSSU attacks, and serving three aces.
Jordyn Gates had 10 kills, 17 assists, and eight digs. With her sixth assist of the night, Gates reached 1,000 for her career as a Laker.
Rachel Jacquay dished out 18 assists, while
Julia Blaney had nine digs.
