Box Score BIG RAPIDS, MICH. – The top two teams in the GLIAC volleyball standings matchup up this afternoon up, as GVSU traveled up to Big Rapids to take on Ferris State. The two teams battled for five sets, but the Bulldogs pulled it out 3-2.
FSU took the match by the scores of 25-19, 20-25, 24-26, 25-19, and 15-9. After a 3-3 start to set one, the Bulldogs went on a 5-0 run to take control at 8-3. GVSU battled back to tie it at 18, forcing a Bulldog timeout, and they responded with a 7-1 run to take the set. Set two had the Lakers getting off to a quick 9-6 lead and they withstood the Ferris run to tie the match at one. Ferris State once again got off to a quick start, going up 7-3, but GVSU used two 4-0 runs and another 4-1 run to take the lead, and they held on after a late 4-0 Bulldog run to go up 2-1. Set four was all Ferris State, as they controlled it from the opening serve, and forced a fifth set. In set five, the Bulldogs used an early 4-0 run to gain the lead, and they never let it go, winning the all deciding fifth set.
Sarah Wight led the Lakers with 16 kills, three blocks, and five digs.
Jordyn Gates had a triple-double, tallying 13 kills, 20 assists, and 25 digs.
Kendall Stover had nine kills and 11 digs, while
Rachel Jacquay had 19 assists, and
Julia Blaney had 19 digs.
