The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced today that junior QB Avery Moore and sophomore linebacker Anthony Cardamone have been named the GLIAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week for their efforts in the #4 Lakers' 49-28 victory over #1 Ferris State.
Moore rushed nine times for 126 yards (14.0 npc) and two touchdowns, while completing 1-of-2 pass for 30 yards and touchdown His TD runs covered 44 and 37-yards, while his TD pass to Kyle Nott was 30 yards. All three of his touchdowns accounted for came at key points in the game, with his 44-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter came after Ferris State pulled to within seven points. The TD completed a 9-play, 89-yard scoring drive that too 4:26 off the clock. GVSU scored 49 points, tallied 433 yards of total offense and rushed for 252 yards against a defense that entered the game among the national leaders in each category.
Cardamone tallied career-highs in tackles (11), tackles for loss (4.0/-25) and QB sacks (3.0/-23, while also picking off a pass and returning it for a touchdown. Cardamone was part of a GVSU defense that recorded 13 tackles for loss (-79), 8.0 quarterback sacks (-66) and limited one of the nation's top rushing teams to 55 rushing yards on 29 carries. On the year Cardamone has 27 tackles, 7.0 TFL and 4.0 QB sacks.
