HAMMOND, IND. – The GVSU women's volleyball team picked up a huge win to close out the Midwest Regional Crossover tournament, defeating nationally-ranked Rockhurst in straight sets. The win was the Lakers first win over a ranked opponent this year and gave GVSU a 2-1 record at this year's Crossover Tournament.
The Lakers swept the Hawks 25-22, 25-21, and 25-19, moving to 16-2 this season. In set one, the Lakers used two separate 3-0 runs to take the lead at 12-10, never letting the Hawks retake the lead, and taking the first set by three points. The second set saw the Lakers race out to an 11-4 lead to open the game. Rockhurst battled back to make it 18-16, but they never got any closer, as GVSU closed on a 6-2 run to go up 2-0. Set three had the Hawks getting out to an early 6-3 advantage, but a 7-1 Laker run had them take over the lead at 8-6, a lead they would never relinquish, finishing off the sweep of #25 Rockhurst.
Jordyn Gates led the way with 13 kills, 22 assists, and nine digs, hitting at a .522 clip.
Sarah Wight and
Meghan O'Sullivan each tallied 11 kills, while Wight added four service aces.
Rachel Jacquay had 18 assists and 10 digs, moving her over 1,000 digs for her career. The Lakers served 11 service aces today, as in addition to Wight's four,
Julia Blaney had three and
Madison Gates served two.

The Lakers are back in GLIAC play next weekend, playing LSSU at home Friday night at 6:00, then traveling up to Ferris State for a matchup of the top two teams in the conference Saturday afternoon at 3:00.
