ALLENDALE – The No. 9 Grand Valley State women's soccer team returns home this weekend to begin the second half of the GLIAC schedule. The Lakers will take on Michigan Tech on Friday (Oct. 13) at 7:00 PM for their kick out cancer game before facing No. 19 Northern Michigan on Sunday (Oct. 15) at 1:00 PM.
GVSU sits in first place in the GLIAC standings entering the weekend with a 7-1-3 overall record and 5-0-2 GLIAC mark. The Lakers are coming off a 2-1 win at Davenport last Friday. Junior
Claire Breault scored the game-winning goal in the 87
th minute for her first career goal as a Laker. This season the Lakers are outscoring their opponents 18-6 and have outshot their opponents 157-84, 70-26 on goal.
Junior
Emma Chudik leads the Lakers with five goals and ten points on the season. Chudik's five goals ranks tied for second in the GLIAC and is six in the GLIAC with ten points.
Kacy Lauer has notched three goals and dished out one assist for seven points in her sophomore campaign. Lauer has started in all 11 games and is second on the team with 921 minutes played including six games where she has seen all 90 minutes of action.
GVSU has split time in goal between redshirt freshman
Isabel Imes and junior
Kendall Robertson. Imes has made six starts posting a 4-0-2 record making ten saves, while Robertson has made five starts posting a 3-1-1 record notching 12 saves. Both goalkeepers rank tied for second in the GLIAC with three goals against, while Imes ranks second with a 0.50 goals-against average and Robertson ranks third with a 0.60 goals-against average.
Michigan Tech enters the weekend with a 4-2-3 overall record and 3-1-3 GLIAC mark to be tied for third place in the standings. The Lakers saw the Huskies two weeks ago winning 2-0 in Houghton off goals by
Mackenzie Jones and
Kacy Lauer. The Lakers are now 21-0-2 all-time against Michigan Tech.
The Huskies are led by junior Seulgi Lee who has scored five goals for ten points this season. Senior Cassie Bonifas has notched three goals and dished out one assist for seven points on the year, while Emilie Clayton has added three goals for six points. Senior goalkeeper Gracie VanLangevelde has started all 11 games in goal posting 34 saves and three shutouts.
Northern Michigan enters the weekend as the number 19
th ranked team in the country. The Wildcats lead the GLIAC with 22 goals scored and 15 assists on the year, while only allowing seven. Northern Michigan also leads all GLIAC teams with 201 shots and has notched six clean sheets. The last time these two teams faced off was two weeks ago in Marquette in a scoreless draw. GVSU is 36-2-3 all-time against NMU.
The Wildcats are 7-1-3 on the season and are tied for third in the GLIAC standings with a 3-1-3 mark. Sophomore Molly Pistorius leads the GLIAC with eight goals and 17 points. Pistorius has notched two game-winning goals and has notched 42 shots with 26 on goal. Sophomore Hannah Kastamo is tied for second in the GLIAC with five goals and has dished out three assists for 13 points. Senior Brenna Musser ranks second in the GLIAC with four assists.
