HOUGHTON, Mich. – The No. 13 Grand Valley State women's soccer claimed a 2-0 shutout win at Michigan Tech Sunday (Oct. 1) afternoon at Kearly Stadium. The Lakers iprove to 6-1-3 on the season and 4-0-2 in the GLIAC.
In the first half, shots were even at three with the Lakers getting two on goal. GVSU found the back of the net in the 31
st minute to take a 1-0 lead. Senior
Mackenzie Jones scored her first goal of the season off a header in the box on a corner kick ball inserted by junior
Daan Louwerse.
In the 83
rd minute, the Lakers earned a penalty kick off a Husky hand ball in the box. Sophomore
Kacy Lauer stepped up and scored on the left side of the goal for her third goal of the season and second off a penalty kick.
Michigan Tech 14-9 in shots and 7-5 in shots on goal. Junior
Emma Chudik and
Mackenzie Jones led the Lakers with three shots with one on goal each. Jones notched her first goal of the season, while Lauer scored her third goal this season. Louwerse dished out her first assist of the season and notching her first career point as a Laker. Goalkeeper
Kendall Robertson got the start in goal and notched seven saves.
