GVSU Men's Golf Sits In First Place After Day One Of The Arendsen Invitiational

Three Individuals Are In The Top 10 After 36 Holes

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The fall season began today for GVSU men's golf, and the start could not have been much better. The Lakers played 36 holes today at The Meadows Golf Course as part of the Arendsen Invitational, and GV led for almost the entire time, ending day one up eleven strokes on the second-place team and placing four individuals in the top-10 of the event so far.
 
Grand Valley is in first place with a team score of 570, with Findlay ending the day in second (581), and Northwood in third (597). Ferris State (598), Ashland (604) and University of Texas Permian Basin (604) round out the top five.
 
Charles DeLong is atop the leaderboard for the Lakers, coming in at second place, scoring two under (140) after birdieing nine holes today. After recording four birdies today, Drew Coble (E) is tied for third place. Nick Krueger (+2) is tied for seventh and freshman Andrew Gwilliams (+4) is in ninth place. Rounding out the starting five is another freshman, Bryce Wheeler (+6) who is tied for 11th place.
 
Grand Valley also has five athletes competing as individuals, Cooper Bell, Charlie Cooley, Tanner Moore, Alex Jordan, and Murphy Kehoe. Bell and Cooley are both tied for 24th, after shooting +9. Moore (+12) shot a 154 and is tied for 34th, while Jordan (+13) is tied for 44th, and Kehoe (+18) is tied for 67th.
 
 "It was a good team effort today and I am pleased with our freshman to this point," said head coach Gary Bissell. "I am looking forward to our team giving their best effort again tomorrow."
 
The Lakers finish out the Arendsen Invitational tomorrow with the final 18 holes. Opening tee offs are set to take place at 9:15.
