ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley women's volleyball team picked up their first home win of the season in a sweep over the Parkside Rangers. The win moves the Lakers to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Grand Valley took the three sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 25-20. The Lakers jumped out to an early set one lead thanks to a 4-0 scoring run to go up 6-1. The Rangers battled back to within two points, but GVSU used a 5-0 scoring run this time to take back control of the set and went on to secure the win with a
Savannah Thompson kill. The Lakers got off to a hot start in set two, going up 9-2 early, then taking the eight-point victory thanks to a 6-0 scoring run to close it out. In set number three, the Lakers once again started quickly, up 9-4, and after a brief Parkside comeback attempt, GVSU ended the match with a 4-1 run, capped off by a
Kaitlyn Bingham kill.
Sarah Wight had a season-high 15 kills tonight while swinging at a .462 clip and three total blocks.
Jaelianna Primus had eight kills and four total blocks.
Jordyn Gates had 18 assists and
Rachel Jacquay added 17 assists, while
Savannah Thompson dug 14 balls. As a team the Lakers totaled seven blocks tonight.
