THE GAME
#2 Grand Valley State will host #17 Saginaw Valley State in the GLIAC opener for both programs. The 2022 Battle of the Valleys will feature two squads that rank among the top 10 nationally in virtually every statistical category. The last time both teams were ranked when playing one another was 2013 when the #22 Lakers claimed a 40-7 first-round playoff win over #21 Saginaw Valley State.Â
THE SERIES
#2 Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Saginaw Valley State by a 39-11 margin and have won nine consecutive and 17-of-the-last-18 games in the series. GVSU claimed a 49-17 victory over the Cardinals in 2021 in University Center and tallied a 35-28 victory over SVSU in the 2019 meeting in Allendale. The Lakers sport a record of 22-2 at Lubbers Stadium versus the Cardinals and a 19-9 mark at Wickes Stadium. From 2002 - 2010, Grand Valley State was ranked either No. 1 or No. 2 in 10 of the 11 meetings with the Cardinals. The lone time SVSU has been ranked higher than GVSU was in the 2003 playoffs and GVSU claimed a 10-3 win at Saginaw Valley State in the playoffs and eventually went on to win the National Championship.

Cade Peterson has completed 51-of-89 passes for 773 yards and five TDs, while rushing for 97 yards and four TDs. Peterson leads the GLIAC in passing (193.3 ypg). Peterson has passed for 3,449 yards and 36 TDs, while rushing for 812 yards and 12 TDs in his career. Â

Jack Provencher has rushed for 117 yards on 19 carries and is averaging 6.2 yards per carry. Provencher, who became the 40th player in GVSU history to reach the 1,000-yard career rushing mark (1,015), has 15 career rushing TDs. In addition, Provencher has 49 receptions for 408 yards and eight TDs.Â

Jahdae Walker leads GVSU in receptions (13), receiving yards 337 yards (25.9 ypc) and receiving TDs (3). Walker is averaging 84.3 yards receiving per game...He hauled in four catches for 132 yards vs. Mines, and four for 97 yards vs. Pueblo. Â Â

Jaylon Tillman hauled in a career-high five catches for a career-high 99 yards and a TD at Wayne State. Tillman ranks second in receptions (11) and yards (157) for the Lakers. Â

Jacob Miller has caught six passes for 76 yards this season and has caught 48 passes for 624 yards and seven TDs in his career.

Cody Tierney ranks second in receptions (11) and third in yards (115) this season. Tierney has 45 career receptions for 529 yards and two TDs.Â

Kyle Nott has three carries for 23 yards and a TD, while catching two passes pass for 19 yards. Nott is averaging 17.4 yards per touch in his career.Â

Trace Hrgich is averaging 43.4 yards per punt with a long of 53 yards. Hrgich has dropped four punts inside the opponents 20 yard line, with three over 50 yards.Â

Kollin Kralapp hit a career-long 40-yard field goal and was 9-fo-9 in point after attempts versus Lincoln...Named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week...Kralapp is 2-for-2 this season and 4-for-4 in his career in field goals. 22-for-23 in PATs this season. Â

Abe Swanson leads GVSU in tackles with 27, while recording three QB hurries. Swanson has 153 career tackles, 11.5 TFL (-55), 4.5 QB sacks (-25) and two interceptions in his career.Â

Antonio Strong has tallied nine tackles and two pass breakup in 2022. Strong has 115 tackles, four interceptions, six PBU's and three forced fumbles in his career.

Christian McCarroll has seven tackles, 4.0 TFL (-19), four QB hurries, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 2022. McCarroll has 64 tackles, 9.0 TFL (-32) and 4.0 QB sacks (-15) in his career. GVSU Team Notes...
• CSU-Pueblo rushed for 75 yards on 19 attempts, 71 of which came on two rushes. The Thunderwolves rushed for four yards on 17 carries.
• CSU-Pueblo tallied 221 yards on 52 plays (4.2 ypp) versus GVSU, 105 of which came on three plays (71 rush/34 pass). The Lakers limited the Thunderwolves to 116 yards on 49 plays (2.3 ypp).Â
