DETROIT, MICH. – The Grand Valley women's volleyball team closed out their weekend road trip by matching up with Wayne State but fell in three sets to the Warriors.
"I thought Wayne State did a great job of putting our serve receive passing and our offense under immense pressure tonight," head coach
Jason Johnson mentioned. "We never felt comfortable in the match tonight. It was a frustrating match because we just didn't compete at the level necessary to win against a good team."
Wayne State won the three sets 25-14, 25-16, and 25-15. GVSU was holding it close in the first set, but Wayne State used a late 7-0 run then a 5-0 run to grab hold of the game and put it away. Set two was more of the same, as the Warriors used late runs to win another set. In set three, they got out to a quick start and never looked back, hanging on for the sweep.
Jordyn Gates led the offense with 11 kills, while also adding 12 assists and seven digs.
Jaelianna Primus added eight kills, while
Rachel Jacquay had 12 assists.
Savannah Thompson recorded 10 digs and
Emily Holbrook contributed nine.
