GRAND HAVEN, MICH. – The Grand Valley men's golf program will be playing in the first annual Folds of Honor Collegiate at the American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven this coming Monday through Wednesday.
American Dunes Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course that is a tribute to the military and commemorates the birthplace of Folds of Honor. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Folds of Honor and the Golf Coaches Association of America Presidential Scholarship Fund.
The tournament field consists of 18 total teams, with Grand Valley being the only Division II school taking part in the tournament. The other 17 schools are all Division I, and three are ranked in the GCAA top 25. Illinois comes in at 11, Florida State at 18, and Arizona at 25, with Clemson receiving votes in the latest poll. The remaining 13 teams are Air Force, Army, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Kansas, Liberty, Michigan State, Navy, North Carolina State, Oregon State, Texas State, UCLA, and Virginia Union.
This is the first year the tournament is being played, and it will continue to be an annual tournament from this year on. Each year there will be two historically black colleges or universities represented in the event, with this year being represented by Texas State and Virginia Union.
The Lakers are bringing five members to the match, as
Charles DeLong,
Nick Krueger,
Drew Coble,
Bryce Wheeler, and
Charlie Cooley will all be making the short trip over to Grand Haven. DeLong and Coble each have an individual win to their name this season, and GVSU has won both tournaments they have appeared in during the fall.
