Men's Golf Leads Doc Spragg Invite After Day One

Lakers Shoot -17 Through Two Rounds To Lead By One Stroke

FINDLAY, OHIO –Fresh off winning their first tournament of the fall season, the Grand Valley men's golf team picked up right where they left off After shooting six under in round one, they were six strokes behind the leader, but the Lakers turned it on over the next 18 holes, shooting 11 under to overtake the leaders and finish the first day of the Doc Spragg Fall Invitational in first place at 17 under.
 
The Lakers lead Missouri-St. Louis and Wayne State by one stroke each, as they are both tied for second place at -16. Host Findlay is close behind in fourth place at fourteen under, and Ashland sits in fifth place at four under heading into tomorrow's final round.
 
Charles DeLong had a great day to start off the tournament, shooting a 133 (-11) after rounds of 68 and 65. DeLong recorded seven birdies in his first round and then four more plus two eagles over the next 18 holes and currently sits two strokes behind the leader. Nick Krueger is tied for sixth at five under (70,69) after recording seven birdies throughout the day. Drew Coble tallied seven birdies and an eagle and is tied for 24th place after shooting a 143 (-1). After recording six birdies in the second round to go along with his two from the first round, Bryce Wheeler is tied for 30th, shooting even par. Rounding out the top five was Andrew Gwilliams who knocked in seven birdies and currently is tied for 60th after shooting a 150 (77, 73).
 
The Lakers also had two members compete as individuals in the tournament, as Charlie Cooley sits tied for 24th place after shooting one under, and Alex Jordan is tied for 39th at two over. The pair have combined for 10 birdies and an eagle through their first 36 holes.
 
Grand Valley closes out the tournament tomorrow with the final 18 holes. The are scheduled to tee off at 9 am.
