DETROIT, Mich. - The Grand Valley State men's tennis team advanced in the NCAA Regional Tournament after defeating GLIAC foe Ferris State 4-1 Monday (May 9) in Detroit, Michigan. GVSU improved to 17-5 on the season with the win. The Lakers will play Wayne State tomorrow (May 8) at 11:00 AM in Detroit.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Josep Canyadell and
Tomas Oliveira claimed a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
Sean Miller and
Jack Dausman tallied a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles. On the singles side,
Ignacio Morera-Lucas claimed a straight set 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. Josep Canaydell tallied a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. With the win, Canaydell earned his 13th singles match win of the season all coming from the No. 1 position.
Sebastian Arce clinched the win with a 7-6, 6-2 straight set win at No. 2 singles. Arce earned his 13th singles match win of the season with the win today.
The Lakers take on Wayne State in the next round. The Warriors defeated Lewis 4-0 this morning. The winner will advance to the Sweet 16 which will be played on Wednesday, May18.
